Will we, as a blue collar workforce, be able to continue to make a decent wage with health and retirement benefits for the remainder of our careers and beyond? Make no mistake about it, these
questions are seriously headed toward one answer, NO!

There can be no arguing the fact that the decline of organized labor over the last thirty years has been in lock step with the decline of the middle class.

As we enter into 2012, we as an organization, are going to have many challenges and I am going to ask all of you for help to meet these challenges head on, it is time that all of us look at what is important to our local union and how each and every one of us can contribute in some way to make us a stronger UNION.

We need you to join us on Thursday May 19th 9:30am at the IBEW union hall 48 Airport Rd. Concord, NH for a Jobs Rally. We will be heading down to the NH Legislature to oppose HB 648. This bill if passed will kill in its entirety the $1.1 billion Northern Pass Project. This project is REAL and will create over 1200 union construction jobs right here in the state of NH. We need to show this legislature it’s time to support REAL jobs not the fictitious jobs they believe they will be creating with the passage of "Right to Work legislation. These people in our State Legislature have done nothing to create jobs all they have done is beat down the NH worker. We must show up in force and tell them it’s time to do what you promised;

Budget

Seems the NH legislature has concluded that the way to fix the NH State Budget is to dismantle organized labor throughout the State. There have been multiple bills filed to diminish collective bargaining rights for NH workers. No one has suffered more through this recent recession than the actual blue-collar workers, yet our legislature feels it important that the one entity that will fight for increased living conditions for the NH worker must be eliminated.
I am quite aware of the suffering, that our inability to actually increase, our own wages and benefits, over the last few years and in no way even keeping up with the cost of living
increases that we have all experienced, have affected you and your family.
Yet as we make tough choices at home in an effort to make ends meet, many of our elected officials think the economic problems we face as a state and nation are caused by the working class. The collapse of the housing market and the reluctance of corporations’ to invest in construction has been particularly hard on the construction industry.
We have seen a significant decrease in the wages paid by our competition making it even more difficult for our contractors to compete in the market. Our attempt to convince our legislatures that good jobs with benefits for our citizens will help solve so many of the
financial woes that the state is currently facing, seems to be falling on deaf ears.
As you may be aware, Right to Work legislation has once again been proposed in NH. This legislations primary focus is to dismantle unions within the State of NH. I have spoke with many business managers from Right To Work states throughout the country and they have told me that the Right to Work law has significantly
reduced wages and benefits throughout their districts ultimately making it difficult for them to increase their members wages through collective bargaining.
As a nation organized labor is at a cross roads, one of which could be the end of workplace solidarity, the other of which could be a new beginning for labor where once again the middleclass will thrive in this country.
This will take courage from all members of organized labor. We will be asking each and every one of you to be proud union members and help us stand together as we fight for workplace dignity, We will be asking for your help in the coming months, please give us some of your time for we must do this together.
