Denis Casey

Dover, NH – Denis Casey, 68 of Dover, died Tuesday January 31, 2012 in Sebastian Florida.

He was born December 31, 1943 in Dover the son of James and Catherine (Redden) Casey. He was a graduate of Dover High School where he lettered in football, basketball, and track. Denis was selected for the Allstate Football team and played in the 1962 Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl.

He then went on to become an electrician with the IBEW Local 490 where he was a proud active member for 33 years. Denis took pride in his job and mentored numerous apprentices throughout his career. Upon retirement in 1998, he began wintering in Sebastian Florida were he acquired numerous new friends while golfing and “socializing”.

Organized Labor

Is organized labor going to survive in this country or in the State of NH? Will there ever be a middle class in this country or in the State of NH? Will we, as a blue collar workforce, be able to continue to make a decent wage with health and retirement benefits for the remainder of our careers and beyond? Make no mistake about it, these
questions are seriously headed toward one answer, NO!

There can be no arguing the fact that the decline of organized labor over the last thirty years has been in lock step with the decline of the middle class.

As we enter into 2012, we as an organization, are going to have many challenges and I am going to ask all of you for help to meet these challenges head on, it is time that all of us look at what is important to our local union and how each and every one of us can contribute in some way to make us a stronger UNION.

The Delegates of the 38th IBEW International Convention, which was conducted in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, during the week of September 19 through 23, 2011, approved
amendments to Article IX of the IBEW Constitution. Accordingly, effective January 1, 2012, there will be a per capita increase of two dollars ($2.00) for all members, and the following rates will apply to the I.O. portion of all monthly dues payments covering January 2012 and thereafter:

“A” Members
Per Capita:      $15.00
Pension Fund:  $14.00

            Total: $29.00 + $0.50 (LU 490) = $29.50 per month

In accordance with Article IX of the IBEW Constitution, $15.00 per month from each member will be deposited in the General Fund, and the additional amount paid by “A” members ($14.00 per month) will be deposited into the IBEW Pension Benefit Fund. It will not be necessary to amend the local union bylaws with respect to this dues increase,
because these changes were approved at the IBEW International Convention. The payment of monthly per capita and Pension Benefit Fund (PBF) contributions to the
International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers is a duty that is required of each individual member. Moreover, each financial secretary is responsible for collecting and forwarding all per capita and PBF payments to the International Office in a timely manner.

School is back in session and is filled with our apprentices and Journeymen every Saturday taking various classes.
Code update classes - There have been four code classes covering the 2011 update so far with another
scheduled for Dec 3rd and 10th. This will be the last until after Feb so if you are in need of this prior to the end of Feb please call and get your name on the list.
JW First Aid/ CPR - The JATC would like to schedule a JW FA/CPR class prior to the holidays. If you need this and can be available on Saturdays please let us know.
We are currently taking names for several introductions to welding classes. Classes will consist of two students and will take place over two consecutive Saturdays.

At the July 28, 2011 Executive Board meeting, it was decided that Joey Ientile will be appointed Vice President and Tom Connor will be appointed to the E-Board zone "A". Tom Connor will be submitting a letter of resignation to the president thus vacating a position on the Examining Board. It was further decided by the Executive Board that Albert Tansey will fill the vacant spot on the Examining Board.

10/15/11 Saturday 7:00am 3:30pm & 10/22/11 Saturday 7:00am 3:30pm
Lunch will be Provided for both days.
This fall we will also be introducing a basic welding class and a rigging class.
Watch for dates and when signups will be taken.
Test Prep classes will be on Tuesdays starting Aug 9th at 5:30 PM. I encourage all who will be testing for their JW license as well as their Masters to attend these very informative classes.
All graduate apprentices must complete their continuing education classes (30 hrs.) each year to renew their permit. Please contact the Training office at 226-3964 for details.

We Need You!!
We need you to join us on Thursday May 19th 9:30am at the IBEW union hall 48 Airport Rd. Concord, NH for a Jobs Rally. We will be heading down to the NH Legislature to oppose HB 648. This bill if passed will kill in its entirety the $1.1 billion Northern Pass Project. This project is REAL and will create over 1200 union construction jobs right here in the state of NH. We need to show this legislature it’s time to support REAL jobs not the fictitious jobs they believe they will be creating with the passage of "Right to Work legislation. These people in our State Legislature have done nothing to create jobs all they have done is beat down the NH worker. We must show up in force and tell them it’s time to do what you promised;

Are you an American employee? If so, today’s column will likely offend you. If you’d rather not be offended, read no further. If you continue and then complain, I’m sorry, but that simply proves you’re, well, stupid. But then again, stupidity plays a large role in today’s topic.

Still reading? OK. You’ve had fair warning.

So you’re an American employee. Maybe you make car parts. Maybe you’re an engineer or designer. Maybe you’re an accountant, store clerk or tradesman. Whatever you do, you’re probably stupid or lazy. Yes, I wrote it, and I mean it. You are either stupid or lazy. Maybe both.
