Limited Gaming

Limited gaming will bring jobs to New Hampshire

The approval of limited gaming will mean much more than money for the state budget. It means jobs for NH workers at a time we need them the most.

The latest unemployment figures for New Hampshire are in. They are not good. Unemployment increased from 3.7% in March 2008 to 6.2% in March 2009 - an increase of 67%.

But cold statistics cannot begin to tell the toll this is taking on New Hampshire families. FORTY-FIVE THOUSAND (45,000) people no longer have a job. 45,000 families without a breadwinner.

This is unacceptable.

The renovation of Rockingham Park in Salem for limited gaming means a $450 million infusion of cash, wages and jobs into New Hampshire's economy.

It will bring hundreds of lobs paying millions in wages.

When completed the facility will provide hundreds more permanent jobs. The ripple effect will mean more jobs in our hospitality industry, transportation, supply services.

The facility will be a major tourist attraction that is not dependent on the weather. It will draw visitors from across New England to spend their money here and create even more jobs.

The legislature can do this and Granite State workers will reap the benefits. Or stand idly by while a neighboring state approves gaming and draws even more money and jobs away from New Hampshire.

Unemployment exacts a terrible toll and every family it hits. When will you in Concord act to help these families? You can now -- enable video lottery terminals at racetracks.... It can help New Hampshire's budget situation...

It can create jobs for New Hampshire workers...

It can help New Hampshire families. Now.
